The STEP CT project helps children (ages 10-13) and youth (ages 14-24) with disabilities gain skills for independent living, self-advocacy, and employment in Connecticut’s growing industries. By partnering with the Connecticut State Department of Education, Centers for Independent Living, and Local Education Agencies, the project provides career exploration, training, and real-world experiences. It focuses on reaching underserved youth earlier to improve outcomes. STEP CT connects schools, agencies, and workforce boards to create better transition services, offering self-advocacy training, career prep, financial literacy, and assistive technology. It will track progress to improve services and ensure long-term benefits for youth.
