LGBTQ+ and Disability Training Series - 5/6/2022

This 3-part training series created by CIT-VR focuses on supporting LGBTQ+ people with disabilities.

Part 1 - Learn more about the application of CRC/ACA ethics for working with LGBTQ+ Youth. Get an understanding of intersectionality as it relates to LGBTQ+ identities and other marginalized identities. Identify common narratives faced by LGBTQ+ Youth and Youth with Disabilities including the intersectionality of identities. Gain an ability to describe the socio-political impacts on work with gender expansive adolescents or gender expansive clients.

Part 2 - Get an understanding of the implication of power and privilege in the counseling relationship as it relates to LGBTQ+ and disability identities. Learn how to support LGBTQ+ people, including Transgender and Gender Expansive persons, in their pursuit of work. Find out how to locate local resources to support LGBTQ+ communities. Examine your own agency’s policies and procedures toward ensuring safe and inclusive services. Questions from part 1 are answered.

Part 3 - In Part 3, we will focus on supporting LGBTQ+ clients with disabilities in their pursuit of work. Learn how organizations can support the full inclusion of LGBTQ+ identified clients with disabilities through policy and procedures and how to approach potential employers. Get an understanding of how to address needs of LGBTQ+ clients when working with agency partners and natural supports (i.e., school systems and families). Identify what to do in cases of discrimination, including the discernment of legitimate resources.
