Taking Control of the Bus: From Passive Passengers to Adventurous Advocates - 10/15/2021

Date: Friday, October 15, 2021 - 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm CDT

Location: Zoom Meeting (virtual)

Description: People who are blind or visually impaired routinely identify the lack of access to transportation as the number-one barrier to just about everything they need—from employment and education to health care services to shopping and recreation. This fact, coupled with the high unemployment rate among blind adults and the negative health and lifestyle outcomes associated with a lack of access to reliable transportation, proves the need for understanding transportation.

This one-hour webinar provides blindness professionals with an overview of the $80 billion transportation industry with a focus on how public transit is regulated, funded, managed, and delivered. The webinar also addresses techniques blind and visually impaired people can use to successfully navigate the transit services in their communities, as well as tips and tricks to advocate for the transportation access they might want or need for themselves.
