Collusion or Collision? Where Mental Health and Legal Interpreting Intersect - 10/1/2020

Where? Online

When? Asynchronous, beginning Thursday, October 1, 2020

How much? Free!

Description: Interpreting in legal and mental health settings can often require different skills and different perspectives. However, there are numerous situations which incorporate elements of both. Abuse investigations, competency determinations and insanity assessments, among others, require an understanding of both the norms and requirements of legal and mental health settings. This workshop will present an overview of these complex situations and an introduction to the techniques used in mental health interpreting. These techniques can be valuable to interpreters working where legal and mental health overlap, providing additional tools to assist in responding to the inherently difficult multiple demands. This webinar is designed for interpreters with legal interpreting experience who have an interest in, or already are, working in these situations.

This pre-recorded, online workshop is presented in ASL and can be completed in 1 hour and 41 minutes.
