Vocational rehabilitation professionals met in Portland, ME September 2019 to collaborate and share resources for quality employment outcomes from state-federal vocational rehabilitation services to people with disabilities. Attendees learned evaluation results and research outcomes from practitioners and researchers and gained insight on VR agencies’ strategies for internal controls, program evaluation, skills gains, and other workplace integration processes.

After successful completion of the online PEQATAC Certification courses, participants will implement a capstone project within their state VR program. These projects are intended to provide an opportunity to apply knowledge and skills gained through the online courses in real-life situations. The goal is to design and implement program evaluation projects that support the participant’s state agency’s needs in measuring various aspects connected to successful WIOA implementation.

Summary of researchers about 29 best practices that promote successful employment outcomes. They found that agencies that use at least some of the identified promising best practices shift focus from process to consumer needs and cultivate an environment of innovation. Use of these practices enable practitioners to provide services that pave the way for successful, lasting, and positive consumer outcomes.

VR Agency Operations and Services that Lead to Employment RSA Funded - Full or Partial RSA Technical Assistance Center

This study examined vocational rehabilitation agencies in four states to learn what operation and service practices lead to increased competitive employment for people with disabilities. They identified promising best practices that set both vocational rehabilitation professionals and consumers up for success. Agencies that use at least some of the identified promising best practices shift focus from process to consumer needs and cultivate an environment of innovation. The practices need to be sustainable, replicable, and portable across states, and flexible enough to be tailored to local need. Agency use of these practices enable practitioners to provide services that pave the way for successful, lasting positive consumer outcomes.

Evaluating services is important. VR agencies face increasing pressures to implement evidence-based practices and measure results. Finding the time to conduct rigorous evaluations can be challenging for VR program evaluation staff. The VR Program Evaluation Coach is a new tool program evaluation staff can use to conduct time-saving and rigorous evaluations of programs and services. This webinar demonstrates how to use the new tool.

Hope and Rehabilitation Counseling: Measuring, Building and Nurturing Goal Attainment in Clients RSA Funded - Full or Partial RSA Technical Assistance Center

Many factors contribute to individual outcomes; however, people with higher hope have been shown to adjust better to disability and the challenges that come with it. Since goals are what drive hope, and identifying and reaching goals are a key component to successful rehabilitation outcomes, understanding clients’ levels of hope is critical. Snyder’s Trait Hope Scale is an effective tool to measure and understand clients’ levels of hope, including clients with depression.
