Summary Some older adults who are having difficulty coping with challenges in their lives use substances such as alcohol or drugs to ease suffering. Sometimes this is a conscious choice and other times, people begin abusing substances without conscious intent. It is important for providers to be aware of substance abuse disorders and ask questions. This resource provides strategies for providers working with older adults with a Substance Abuse Disorder.
